The Motif Luna Breast Pump has recently become available in a battery-powered option, so be on the lookout for that if it’s your preference. When you’ve received your pump, the package will include tubing, flange, backflow protectors, bottles, duckbill valves, and the pump itself. It is best to wash all pieces aside from the tubing, before use. The tubing should not be washed since no water should be inside the tube at any time. When assembling the pieces, be sure that they are securely in-place. Take special care to be certain there is a nice tight seal on the backflow protector. Doing so will assure that your pump functions properly.

Once you’re all set up and ready to pump, press the power button. One of the nice features offered with this pump is that it remembers what mode you were in at the end of your previous pumping session. To begin your pumping session, press the massage mode button which will help encourage letdown, cycle speed will be shown as 60; this indicates 60 sucks per minute. Your suction levels range from 1 through 5. Once your milk starts steadily flowing you will want to transition into expression mode by pressing the necessary button. Expression speed on the Motif Luna ranges from 30 to 46. It is recommended to begin the 42-46 range. Vacuum level in expression mode ranges from 1 to 12; 7 or 8 is a good place to start.

Proper-fitting flanges allow for higher cycle speed and suction level.
